- n. [O. H. G. zîg = a charge], a charge; only in the phrases, enginn í tigi nema þú, none can be charged but thou, there is no question of any but thee; kalla ek þar öngan mann annan í tigi til at eiga þenna svein með mér enn yðr, konungr, Jómsv. 6 (cp. Fms. xi. 53, wrongly spelt tyge); er þar þó enginn í tigi til, nema þú, at vera faðir at barni því er ek geng með, Fas. ii. 235; at hón væri með barni, ok er þar engi maðr í tigi til nema ek, Fb. i. 136; spurði hverr ætti (sveininn) með henni,—Hón sagði at þar var engi maðr í tigi til nema Haraldr konungr, 157: in all those instances of paternity; so also, það eru tveir í tiginu, there are two suspected.
