þel: n. [cp. A. S. and Engl. felt; Germ. filz; Lat. pilus, Gr. πιλος, þ = f, cp. Gr. θήρ = φήρ, Lat. ferus]:—the nap on woollen stuffs; þel er á hnefa bundini eða hlutr feldar, Skálda (Thorodd): in mod. usage þel is the soft fine wool, as opp. to the tog or kemp, on Icel. mountain sheep; úr þeli þráð að spinna, a ditty.
