(in a verse); in the old heathen times an inglorious death, opp. to vápndauðr, cp. þat óttuðumk ek um hríð, er friðr þessi inn mikli var, at ek munda verða elli-dauðr inni á pall-strám mínum, Hkr. i. 149.
