- u, f. [akin to smjúga; Ivar Aasen records a verb smetta, smatt = to dart quickly, start, like a mouse; Dan. smutte, smut-hul; but these words are not preserved in Icel., cp. however smátt]:—a nickname, Fms. ii. 252.
