adj. ‘self-feeding,’ of cattle grazing without a shepherd; (fé) gékk þar öllum vetrum s. í skógum, Eg. 135; ef menn eigu vetr-haga saman er hross eða sauðir eða naut ganga s. í, Grág. ii. 325; er mér sagt gott frá landa-kostum, at þar gangi fé s. á vetrum, Fs. 20; má af því marka landa-kosti þá er í þat mund vóru, at féit gékk allt s. úti, 26, Landn. 47, v. l.; en er hann fór eptir fé sínu því er þar hafði s. úti gengit, 53.
